Jo Diagnosed cancer of the left breast aged 34 years

Clive Wilson's life has been deeply affected by cancer. His mother died of Lung Cancer in her 50's, he survived Testicular Cancer in his 30's and when Jo, his wife, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer aged 34 it just confirmed to him that the foundation on which we base our lives is not as solid as we imagine. The sculpture represents before/after, perfection/disfigurement and the inevitability of decay. Safe, solid, like the base, is how we imagine our life to be, but once cracks appear, no amount of patching can alter the fact it has changed forever. A reminder of how fragile and tenuous are the bindings of our lives. Sycamore
